Prices were checked on 2026-07-26 and may exclude taxes or regional terms. Wire's pricing page advertises video conferences up to 150 participants for SMB, while its current support article states 50 video and 100 audio participants and describes conference initiation as Enterprise-only; confirm both entitlement and capacity before purchase. Hosting control and E2EE are separate properties.

Jitsi Meet

Best for low-friction browser meetings with a self-hosting path

Jitsi Meet is the closest fit when the buyer wants a simple link for outsiders and the option to run the conferencing stack under its own domain. Its privacy story depends on configuration: ordinary multiparty calls are encrypted to the Videobridge, while optional E2EE adds participant-to-participant protection for audio, video and screen sharing on supported clients. The public meet.jit.si service is convenient but requires the room creator to authenticate, uses analytics and gives every participant moderator-style controls.

Choose it when

  • External participants must join from a normal browser without creating their own account
  • Your organization wants control over DNS, TLS, authentication, logs and media routing through self-hosting
  • You can accept optional, client-dependent E2EE rather than requiring every meeting feature to remain available under E2EE

Know the trade-offs

  • Jitsi E2EE does not cover chat or polls and requires supported Chromium-based browsers or the Electron client
  • The public meet.jit.si service requires the room creator to use an account, uses analytics and makes all participants moderators
  • A resilient multi-bridge deployment requires Linux, networking, monitoring, configuration management and recovery work

Wire

Best for recurring sensitive collaboration with always-on end-to-end encryption

Wire is a stronger fit than a meeting-only tool when the same trusted group needs encrypted messages, files and calls before and after each meeting. End-to-end encryption is always on for messages, conference calls and ordinary shared files, and the service can run in Wire Cloud, a private cloud or on-premises. Password-protected guest links reduce account friction on desktop, but no-account guests cannot use a mobile browser and are removed from the conversation after 24 hours.

Choose it when

  • A continuing team or partner group needs messages, files and calls under one always-on E2EE model
  • Desktop browser guest access is sufficient for occasional outsiders and 24-hour temporary membership is acceptable
  • You need a choice between managed cloud, private cloud and a customer-operated on-premises deployment

Know the trade-offs

  • No-account guests join only from desktop; mobile links require the app and an account, and browser calling is currently limited to Chrome 100+
  • Official pages conflict on conference entitlement and capacity: pricing advertises SMB video conferences up to 150 participants, while the current support article says 50 video, 100 audio and Enterprise-only initiation
  • On-premises Wire is a substantial collaboration stack involving Kubernetes, databases, calling components, monitoring, logs and disaster recovery

Pexip Infinity

Best for regulated deployment control and SIP/H.323 room interoperability

Pexip Infinity is the choice for organizations that treat conferencing as governed infrastructure rather than a self-service app. It can run on-premises, in major public clouds, in a Pexip-hosted private cloud or across a hybrid topology, while supporting browser guests and standards-based SIP/H.323 endpoints. Its normal multiparty model is encrypted to conferencing nodes that process media, not end-to-end encrypted; direct-media E2EE applies only to two WebRTC participants.

Choose it when

  • Data sovereignty or network policy requires on-premises, private-cloud or explicitly placed conferencing nodes
  • Existing SIP or H.323 room systems and browser guests must join the same governed meeting environment
  • A video, network and security operations team can manage capacity, certificates, backups, upgrades and incident recovery

Know the trade-offs

  • Standard multiparty conferences are not E2EE because conferencing nodes mix or transcode media; direct-media E2EE is limited to two WebRTC participants
  • Pricing is by quote and the buyer also carries infrastructure, cloud-consumption, licensing, deployment and support costs
  • The official CSV tools move Pexip service configuration, not Zoom recordings, chats, users, invitations or meeting history

A safer Zoom migration

  1. 01

    Classify meetings by trust requirement

    Inventory recurring meetings and label which ones require E2EE, recording, telephone dial-in, SIP/H.323 rooms, anonymous browser guests or controlled data location. A single replacement rarely satisfies every class.

  2. 02

    Export and preserve Zoom data first

    Request user data, download cloud recordings and transcripts, and export chat or administrative reports through their separate Zoom workflows. Store the archive read-only with owners, retention rules and deletion dates before changing licenses.

  3. 03

    Pilot the hardest external joins

    Test representative client browsers, mobile devices, partner networks, firewalls, room endpoints and accessibility needs. Verify the exact E2EE indicator and confirm what stops working when encryption or guest restrictions are enabled.

  4. 04

    Rebuild identity, rooms and invitations

    Configure SSO, host and guest roles, meeting policies, retention, backups and recovery ownership. Replace calendar links and recurring series rather than assuming Zoom meeting objects will import.

  5. 05

    Cut over with a rollback path

    Keep a time-boxed Zoom overlap for high-risk meetings, publish guest instructions, monitor failed joins and test a real restore or contingency procedure. Retire Zoom only after owners can recover data and run a meeting during an outage.

When you should stay with Zoom

External compatibility matters more than provider minimization

Zoom lets invitees join across desktop, mobile, web and telephone workflows, and organizations can connect SIP/H.323 rooms through supported services. That breadth can be more valuable than a stricter privacy model when participants cannot be trained or prequalified.

You depend on cloud features that E2EE disables

Zoom meeting E2EE excludes the web app, telephone and SIP/H.323 participants and turns off AI features, cloud recording, live transcription, polling, whiteboard and several other workflows. Staying with Zoom's standard encrypted mode may be the rational choice when those functions are mandatory and the risk assessment permits Zoom-managed keys.

The operational and migration risk is larger than the privacy gain

A mature Zoom deployment may already contain room hardware, dial-in, recordings, calendars, administrator policy and support procedures. Jitsi and on-premises Wire add infrastructure duties, while Pexip requires specialist deployment and procurement; none provides a verified full Zoom import.

What we checked—and what we didn't.

Current official pricing, security, deployment, platform, guest-access, backup, import/export, and recovery documentation was reviewed for Zoom and seven credible candidates. Selected products were checked against at least four first-party sources each.

This was documentation research, not hands-on testing, a penetration test, a legal review or a completed migration. Public pages do not expose Pexip quote details, Wire cloud-region contract terms or a universal measure of meeting capacity. Wire publishes conflicting conference entitlement and participant limits, and no current first-party Zoom importer was found for any selected product.

Choose the privacy model you can operate

Choose Jitsi Meet when easy browser guests and self-hosting matter most; choose Wire when a recurring group needs always-on E2EE across messages, files and calls; choose Pexip Infinity when governed deployment and SIP/H.323 rooms justify enterprise operations. Stay with Zoom when external reach, dial-in, recordings, AI and existing room or calendar workflows outweigh the narrower privacy gain.
